About the Farmers
We the farmers are Loren and Andrea Haverinen, and farmers-in-training, Rodney and Darryl. Loren’s dad got his herd of dairy cows in 1982, and Loren helped with chores from the first day. Loren and his brother Wayne took over the dairy and  certified the farm for organic production. When Loren and Andrea got married, they transitioned to organic hog production and left the dairy with Wayne and his growing family. Andrea has no prior farming experience, coming from Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. She is the force behind the direct marketing and graphic design for Oak Post Ranch. Together with the boys, they raise hogs from farrow-to-finish and farm the 80 acres their farm lies on.
About the Farm
Oak Post Ranch is located in rural Menahga, a small community in north central Minnesota. Part of the land we farm was homesteaded by the Haverinen family in the late 1800s. Although organic farming wasn’t a label when farming started here, chemicals have never been used on the farm.
About the Animals
The hogs at Oak Post Ranch are a closed group, originated from organic gilts in 2004. They are a mix of Chester White for litter size and body size, and Berkshire for meat quality and outdoor hardiness. They are housed in hoop houses and three-sided sheds in the winter time, and outside with pasture access in the summer. Year-round they have outdoor access to the snow, grass, dirt and sunshine, which helps to make healthier animals. Their feed consists of mostly on-farm small grains and hay. They are fed NO SOY, NO ANTIBIOTICS, NO GMOs. Hogs are butchered when they reach 240# – approximately 7 months of age.

Oak Post Ranch is certified organic by Oregon Tilth. We are members of Minnesota Grown.
